The activity button shows a feed on all activity occurring in all of your teams. You can click on each action item on your feed to see anything new that has been added (new files, new posts, etc).

The chat function allows you to chat with individual team members, or groups created by you. To start a new chat:

  1. Click the pen and paper button at the top next to “Microsoft teams”
  2. Type in the name or names of those you wish to communicate with.
  3. Type your message in the area at the bottom.

To continue a conversation that you were in previously, click on the name of the person you wish to speak with in the recent chat menu on the left hand side.

Click on the teams icon twice to take you to the menu of all of your teams. Click the team you are looking for to open.

The left hand navigation bar will have different channels for you with different sub-groups. Most teams will only have one channel.

Within each channel, you will see different tabs. Many will only have “Posts” and “Files.”

Posts will allow you to communicate within your group. You can start a new conversation or reply within an existing conversation. To mention someone specifically, type the @ sign before their name.

Files allow you to share files within your team. Each team will have their own settings. Some teams will allow every member to upload new files and some will restrict who can upload. Microsoft allows you to create shared word or excel spread sheets. You can click on the document name and edit those documents. Other documents can be opened and downloaded by clicking the document name.

Additional tabs can be created by clicking the plus sign.

Clicking the calendar will open up your personal calendar. This is linked to your outlook calendar. New meetings can be created from this location.

The files tab allows you to see all the files within all of your teams. When you click files, the first thing you will see are the most recently uploaded files. Clicking Microsoft Teams will show you all the files uploaded into all of your teams. Clicking one-drive will show you all of your files loaded onto your personal one-drive account.
