Teaching Continuity Tips and Tools

Here are tips and resources for online, hybrid and remote teaching.

Canvas

Canvas is the new Learning Management System (LMS) being utilized by the University starting with the Fall 2020 Semester. Canvas can be used to fully teach your courses online, including collecting assignments and administering tests.

Zoom

Zoom allows you to conduct real time class meetings with your students. You can share video, present your desktop, take questions via voice and chat, and record everything. If you are planning on recording your classes, please email amacdougall@newhaven.edu.

Respondus LockDown

LockDown Browser® is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system. Used at over 1500 higher educational institutions, LockDown Browser is the “gold standard” for securing online exams in classrooms or proctored environments.

Kaltura

Kaltura can be used to record lectures, upload videos, and link them to your canvas course.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a unified communication and collaboration platform that combines persistent workplace chat, video meetings, file storage, and application integration.​​

VPN

A virtual private network allows users access to resources usually only available on campus such as Argos, Photo Course Rosters, and B9Admin.

Blackboard can be used to fully teach your courses online, including collecting assignments and administering tests.

Please note: Blackboard is being replaced by Canvas starting with the Fall 2020 semester.
